Woman falls 100-feet to her death after marriage proposal

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a romantic marriage proposal at a scenic cliff in Turkey took a tragic turn when Yesim Demir, the woman who had just accepted her partner's proposal, tragically fell to her death.

Yesim Demir and her soon-to-be husband, Nizamettin Gursu, had selected the breathtaking cliffside at Polente Cape in Canakkale, situated in the northwestern region of Turkey, as the perfect backdrop for their engagement celebration. The couple had meticulously planned to commemorate the start of their shared life journey by watching the sunset on the 6th of July. However, in a cruel twist of fate, the joyous occasion was marred by tragedy when Demir, losing her balance, plummeted from the 100-foot cliff.

"We had chosen this spot to create a romantic memory following the proposal. We had some alcohol. Then, everything happened so quickly. She lost her balance and fell," Gursu shared with local media outlets. He had momentarily left Demir alone on the cliff to retrieve their picnic meal from their car when he heard a scream. Upon rushing back, he was met with the horrifying sight of his fiancée lying at the base of the cliff, Fox News reports.

Rescue Efforts Fail to Save Demir's Life

Despite the severity of the fall, Demir, aged 39, initially survived the incident. Emergency medical personnel arrived promptly at the scene and embarked on a desperate 45-minute attempt to resuscitate her. Despite their relentless efforts, they were unable to revive her, and she was tragically declared dead at the scene.

In the aftermath of the incident, local authorities promptly sealed off the area and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to Demir's fall. The area was cautiously reopened to the public on July 15, as reported by the New York Post.

In light of the incident, authorities have issued a warning to tourists and local visitors, urging them to exercise caution near the cliff edge to prevent a recurrence of such a tragic incident.

Demir's Friends Advocate for Improved Safety Measures

Friends of the couple disclosed that the cliff at Polente Cape is a popular spot among locals who frequent the area to watch the sunset. However, they pointed out that the roads leading to the cliff are in poor condition and that there are no safety measures in place at the edge of the cliff.

One of Demir's friends voiced their concern about the lack of safety precautions at the cliff.

"A fence should be erected here, precautions should be taken,"

the friend urged in a conversation with a local newspaper.

As the community mourns the loss of Demir, it remains to be seen whether her tragic death will spur local authorities into action to implement much-needed safety measures at this popular tourist spot.
