Washington Commanders Dismiss Brandon McManus Following Flight Altercation Allegations

In a significant move, NFL kicker Brandon McManus has been cut from the Washington Commanders roster amid serious allegations.

According to the New York Post, the Washington Commanders released NFL kicker Brandon McManus following accusations of sexual assault by two flight attendants from a previous year's flight.

The incident that resulted in McManus's release took place during a team flight to London on September 28 last year.

McManus was accused of inappropriate behavior towards flight attendants, leading to a lawsuit filed in Duval County Circuit Civil Court the following month. The plaintiffs, who remain anonymous, are seeking over one million dollars in damages.

Before his time with the Commanders, McManus played nine seasons with the Denver Broncos and spent the 2023 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In March of this year, he signed a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders worth $3.6 million.

Commanders Respond to Serious Allegations

Following the filing of the lawsuit, the team took decisive action by releasing McManus the following Sunday evening before the public announcement.

The Commanders, in a public statement, expressed their seriousness about the accusations, confirming their ongoing communications with the league and McManus’s representation.

They also indicated that they would reserve further commentary pending further investigation.

Brett R. Gallaway, McManus’s attorney, quickly defended his client:

Brandon would like to thank the Washington Commanders for the opportunity to be part of the organization. However, we reiterate that the allegations against Brandon are and remain false.

Legal Defense and Claims of Falsity

Furthermore, Gallaway highlighted the defense’s perspective that the allegations were an extortion attempt.

"The allegations are fictitious and demonstrably false,” he noted, signaling a contentious legal battle ahead aimed at vindicating McManus. According to Gallaway, they plan to defeat these claims thoroughly and restore McManus’s professional standing.

Despite the legal controversies, McManus had been a reliable performer during the 2023 NFL season, boasting an 81.1% field goal completion rate and maintaining a perfect record on extra points.

As the 2024 NFL season approaches, the Washington Commanders are without a kicker on their team roster.

This comes after their decision not to re-sign McManus, adding to the team's difficulties as they prepare for the upcoming season amidst ongoing controversy.

Why This Story Matters

This story holds significant weight as it highlights the consequences of alleged misbehavior by sports figures, bringing to the forefront issues of conduct, the repercussions on one’s career, and the subsequent legal battles that often ensue.

Such high-profile cases serve as a reminder of the pervasive issues of misconduct and the impact on the reputations of individuals and organizations involved.

In conclusion, the release of Brandon McManus by the Washington Commanders underlines the serious implications of allegations of misconduct, the rapid response by organizations to uphold their reputation, and the complex legal battles that can emerge from such situations.

This case not only affects those directly involved but also serves as a cautionary tale about personal conduct and the far-reaching effects it can have on entire professional leagues and their stakeholders.
