Thomas Manzo Convicted For Hiring Mob Hit On Dina's Now-Husband

In a shocking twist befitting of a suspense thriller, Thomas Manzo, the former spouse of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Dla Manzo, was convicted for orchestrating a violent attack on her then-boyfriend, David Cantin.

Thomas Manzo was found guilty of engaging a mob associate to assault David Cantin as part of a macabre deal involving wedding expenses.

According to the Daily Mail, the criminal plot began in 2015, when Thomas Manzo, a restaurateur well-known in New Jersey, reportedly conspired with John Perna, a member of the Lucchese Crime Family.

The objective was to assault David Cantin to deter him from his relationship with Dina Manzo. This assault took place in a strip mall parking lot, marking the beginning of an intricate legal drama.

The prosecution stated the attack on Cantin was bargained for a lavish wedding reception for Perna at The Brownstone, a posh restaurant partially owned by Thomas Manzo. This event evidences the disturbing blend of personal animosity and mob influences.

Details from the Courtroom

The legal proceedings revealed a series of deceitful actions by Thomas Manzo. He falsified and concealed documents related to the case, complicating the investigation into the 2015 attack.

The depth of his involvement became clearer when the evidence presented in court highlighted his efforts to cover his tracks and mislead the authorities.

In December 2020, John Perna accepted his role in the crime, leading to his conviction and a subsequent prison sentence of two and a half years.

He was also ordered to pay restitution, totaling over seventeen thousand dollars, acknowledging the gravity of his violent actions.

The severity of the crime led to a thorough investigation by federal agents, culminating in Thomas Manzo’s arrest and trial. The FBI’s involvement underscored the case's complexity, linking it to organized crime and corrupt business practices.

Connections and Consequences

The implications of this case extend beyond the personal vendetta against David Cantin. This attack was a calculated act facilitated by the dark connections of the Lucchese Crime Family, notorious for their criminal activities.

Thomas Manzo's intertwining with this mafia entity has brought him a possible sentence of up to 46 years in prison, demonstrating the significant legal repercussions of his actions.

FBI Newark Special Agent in Charge Jim Dennehy commented on the case, describing it as a scenario "like something from a bad TV crime drama."

His statement highlighted the bizarre and brutal reality of the events that transpired, emphasizing the challenging recovery process for the victims involved.

On the defense, Thomas Manzo’s attorneys argued that the delay in trial proceedings violated the Speedy Trial Act, portraying Manzo as a "respected businessman" whose priority was to return to his family and business endeavors.

Why This Story Matters

The story of Thomas Manzo’s criminal actions resonates deeply within our community. It illustrates how the influence of organized crime can infiltrate personal lives and businesses.

It is a cautionary tale about the power dynamics within relationships and the severe impact of legal and ethical breaches in both personal and public domains.

The conclusion of this narrative echoes the importance of integrity, the rule of law, and the harsh realities of engaging with organized crime. Thomas Manzo's choices led to many events that affected many lives, providing a complex example of crime, punishment, and justice in our society.
