Texas man admits to murder of missing flight attendant during March dispute

A Texas man faces a murder charge after allegedly confessing to strangling his flight attendant roommate during an argument, police say.

Dennis William Day, 53, was arrested in Fort Worth and charged with the murder of 47-year-old Rana Nofal Soluri after a months-long investigation into her disappearance, which included surveillance footage, digital forensics, and a chilling confession, as the New York Post reports.

Rana Nofal Soluri, an employee of Envoy Air, was last heard from on March 19 during a text conversation that ended abruptly. The longtime flight attendant had been staying home on medical leave following surgery and was expected to return to work by March 31. When she didn't return, concern mounted among her coworkers.

A colleague reported Soluri missing on June 11 after weeks of silence. She had purchased a new 2023 Mazda just before her disappearance. By May 8, Fort Worth police were called to her home to tow the parked car, leading them to question her roommate, Dennis Day.

Day, who had lived with Soluri for about a year, told officers he had not seen her for two months and showed no visible concern. He repeated this denial during a welfare check in June, claiming he had no idea where she had gone.

Authorities' suspicions roused

Police began to probe further into Soluri’s absence, particularly suspicious of Day’s indifference and inconsistencies. On June 23, Fort Worth detectives searched the residence shared by the two. During the search, officers seized surveillance video from the home that captured Day dragging what looked like a non-responsive body across the floor and into the backyard.

Investigators confronted Day again following the discovery. In a subsequent interview, Day reportedly admitted to investigators that he had “snapped” during a heated argument with Soluri. He claimed that she had threatened to contact law enforcement, triggering the violent act.

Day said the incident occurred on the kitchen floor. After strangling Soluri, he allegedly placed her body into a black trash bin and transported it to an area off a bridge near Bowie, Texas, where he disposed of it. He also confessed to throwing her cellphone into a river near Interstate 35.

Digital forensics support confession

Evidence collected in the days following Day’s confession appeared to corroborate parts of his account. Data from Soluri’s phone confirmed her last outgoing call occurred on March 21 and showed a signal near Scott Avenue, an area consistent with where Day claimed to have discarded her cellphone.

Authorities also recovered a revolver Day said he had thrown down a storm drain. According to police, the firearm closely matched a gun model known to have been owned by Soluri. Day confessed to discarding multiple personal items of Soluri’s during the cover-up effort.

Despite his detailed account and police-led searches in the indicated areas, law enforcement has not yet recovered Soluri’s body. Authorities have acknowledged that recent flooding may have hindered their recovery efforts near the disposal site in Bowie.

Suspect remains jailed as search continues

Day is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail. A bond of $200,000 has been set while his case proceeds through the legal system. Prosecutors are pursuing charges of murder in connection to Soluri’s presumed death.

Investigators continue to seek information that may lead to the discovery of Soluri’s remains. While Day has shared locations and provided graphic details, officials say weather and environmental conditions have made recovery difficult.

The community, particularly those close to Soluri in the airline industry, is still reeling from the news. Friends describe her as dependable and warm-hearted, making her sudden disappearance and presumed death all the more tragic.

Lessons to learn

1. Always share personal plans with trusted individuals: If going off the grid for surgery or personal matters, inform several trusted friends or family members of your schedule and expected check-ins. Routine absence becomes less alarming when someone is aware of your intentions.

2. Stay alert to any escalating tension in shared living arrangements: Domestic arrangements with roommates, regardless of familiarity, should be grounded in mutual respect. Tensions or threats—especially those involving law enforcement—should not be ignored. If a conflict worsens, seek mediation or move to a safer environment wherever possible.

3. No one is ever at fault for someone else's violence: While we can learn to be cautious, these steps alone cannot guarantee safety. Always remember that the responsibility lies with the perpetrator, not the victim. Victims deserve justice, not judgment.

Why this story matters

This incident highlights the haunting reality of intimate homicides and how they can unfold quietly within residential neighborhoods.

Rana Soluri’s disappearance underscores the need to take missing persons seriously, even when months have passed.

Her story encourages community awareness and proactive intervention in situations involving prolonged silence or signs of distress.
