Teen killed in West Babylon house party stabbing, suspect still at large

A teenage gathering on Long Island turned deadly when a 15-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight that erupted among approximately 100 teens at a house party Monday night.

Liam Delemo was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, according to ABC7NY. The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. outside a home on Carlton Road in West Babylon.

Authorities have charged the homeowner, 70-year-old Bonnie Miranda, with violating Suffolk County's Social Host Law and endangering the welfare of a child. However, police say the person responsible for the fatal stabbing has not been apprehended.

Homeowner Faces Charges Following Teen Party

Miranda allegedly allowed her grandchild to host the party at her residence, leading to criminal charges under local ordinances. The Social Host Law holds property owners accountable when they permit underage drinking or unsafe gatherings on their premises.

While Miranda faces legal consequences for hosting the event, investigators emphasize she is not suspected in the actual stabbing. The distinction highlights the separate legal issues of hosting an unsafe gathering versus committing a violent crime.

Authorities continue to search for the individual who wielded the knife during the altercation. The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify and locate the suspect.

Father Pleads for Witnesses to Come Forward

Michael Delemo, the victim's father, has made an emotional appeal to the teens who attended the party. He urged them to share information with Suffolk County Police about what they witnessed that night.

"This whole if I tell on somebody I'm a rat and all this other stuff that goes out the window, my son's dead," Delemo said. His plea addresses the code of silence that often prevents young people from cooperating with law enforcement.

The grieving father recalled his final moments with his son before the fatal party. "I always tell same thing, 'be careful' and he said 'I will' and of course I told him I loved him," Delemo said.

Investigation Continues as Community Seeks Answers

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives have taken over the investigation into the teenager's death. The large number of attendees at the party suggests numerous potential witnesses who may have crucial information.

The case highlights the challenges investigators face when questioning teenage witnesses who may fear retaliation or social consequences. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the fatal stabbing.

Authorities have not released information about potential motives or whether the victim and attacker knew each other prior to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide answers to the victim's family.

Lessons to Learn

1. Responsible hosting is crucial. Allowing teens to host large gatherings at a private residence can introduce significant risks. Adults must understand the importance of supervision and legal accountability, especially when dealing with underage attendees.

2. Speak up after a crime. Witnesses play a critical role in helping investigators solve cases. Fears of social backlash should never outweigh the importance of delivering justice for a victim and helping prevent future violence.

3. Tragedy can impact anyone. No matter what precautions are taken, crime can still happen to anyone. It’s important to avoid blaming victims or their families and to focus on seeking justice and creating safer environments for all young people.

Why This Story Matters

This tragedy brings to light the dangers teenagers face in unsupervised social environments. It also emphasizes the responsibility adults have under laws designed to protect minors. The incident serves as a painful reminder to communities everywhere that one lapse in judgment can have devastating consequences.

Conclusion

Liam Delemo, age 15, was fatally stabbed during a house party in West Babylon on Monday night, after a fight broke out among a crowd of about 100 teens. The homeowner, Bonnie Miranda, is now facing legal charges for allowing the event to take place. While Suffolk County Police actively search for the person responsible, Liam’s father is pleading with other teenagers to help bring justice by providing information. The tragedy has left a community in mourning and raised urgent questions about responsibility, safety, and intervention in teen social gatherings.
