Police make arrest in shooting death of Tupac Shakur

A major break has been achieved in the 27-year-old murder case of famed rapper Tupac Shakur, leading to an arrest.

Nearly three decades after rapper Tupac Shakur's tragic death, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has made a significant arrest. Duane Keith Davis, 60, has been arrested in connection with Shakur's murder.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department remarked, "The investigation into Shakur's death started 27 years ago, but it is far from over."

With the years gone by, many wondered if justice would ever be served, making this development notable.

The rapper's death and its cultural implications extensively since the incident took place.

What led to Davis’ recent arrest

Davis, also known by the moniker “Keffe D,” is no stranger to this investigation. In 2009, he confessed to his role in the murder to the police.

However, because of a proffer agreement, he wasn't charged then. His own words played a crucial role in reigniting the investigation.

In a statement, Sheriff McMahill shared that the suspect made "admissions to his involvement in the homicide investigation," as reported by CNN

Details surrounding the fateful night

The fatal incident occurred on September 7, 1996, after Shakur and his entourage attended a boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A scuffle broke out between Shakur's group and another group led by Davis.

This altercation, it seems, set the wheels in motion for the tragic event that would follow. Davis is believed to have spearheaded a plan, culminating in the shooting of Shakur.

Shakur, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries six days after the drive-by shooting while in a BMW alongside Death Row Records co-founder Marion "Suge" Knight. He was just 25.

Orlando Anderson and the South Side Compton Crips connection

Duane Davis made several revelations in a 2018 interview. He asserted that everyone in the Cadillac on that night belonged to the South Side Compton Crips gang. Notably, Shakur allegedly had a brawl with a member of this gang mere hours before the fatal shooting.

Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson, was a significant figure in the investigation.

He was viewed as the prime suspect in the 1996 murder but denied any involvement. Anderson met a violent end in 1998 in a different shooting in Compton, California, Fox News reported.

Indictment and Davis’ key role

After years of investigation, a grand jury has indicted Davis on charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the Shakur case.

Even though there is no evidence that Davis pulled the trigger, Nevada law still permits charging him with murder, especially given that he's believed to be the "shot caller" in the plan to assassinate Shakur.

During his investigation, police procured various items, among them a USB drive, electronic gadgets, a magazine featuring Shakur, and photos.

They were also on the lookout for documents related to Shakur's murder.

At the time of his demise, his fourth solo album, "All Eyez on Me," dominated the charts, having sold approximately 5 million copies.

The world lost not just a rapper but a poet, activist, and visionary. His family and fans have waited for a resolution to his murder case, yearning for justice.
