Police in MI seek woman caught on video throwing coffee at McDonald’s manager

A heated dispute at a Michigan McDonald’s took a dangerous turn when a woman hurled a hot cup of coffee at a store manager during a verbal outburst that was captured on a now-viral video.

Authorities in Saginaw have issued an arrest warrant for Casharra Brown after she was filmed attacking a McDonald’s employee with scalding liquid during an argument over a delayed online order, as the New York Post reports.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday morning at a McDonald’s restaurant in the Saginaw-area community of Buena Vista. Police say 48-year-old Casharra Brown became irate after reportedly waiting over an hour for the food order she placed online. Surveillance footage later released by the Buena Vista Police Department showed Brown confronting a manager behind the counter shortly before the alleged assault occurred.

According to police, Brown accused the manager of dishonesty after learning that her order only included coffee and that a refund for the remaining items would take up to 48 hours to process. As tempers flared, the video captured Brown shouting profanities while dressed in a gray jacket and light-colored pants, escalating to the moment she tossed a full cup of hot coffee.

The manager, who had just explained the refund procedure to Brown, was struck in the back by the scalding liquid. Surveillance footage and audio picked up the manager exclaiming in pain, with the woman audibly yelling, “Catch that hot-a-- coffee!” as she fled the restaurant.

Surveillance Video Sparks Viral Reaction

Police say the video, which circulated widely online shortly after the incident, sparked an almost immediate reaction from the local community. According to Buena Vista detective Russ Pahssen, authorities received approximately 100 tips from individuals who claimed to recognize the woman shown in the footage. The detective said Brown was identified “within about two minutes” of the video going public.

“I must have gotten about 100 tips,” Pahssen told reporters, expressing appreciation for the overwhelming response from the public. Despite knowing Brown’s place of residence, authorities say they have so far been unable to locate her.

The McDonald’s worker who was attacked sustained minor injuries from the hot beverage but did not require hospitalization. Police have since referred the case to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office, which is considering a charge of felonious assault against Brown.

Felonious Assault Charge Considered

Felonious assault, under Michigan law, is a serious charge that involves an attack using a weapon or a dangerous object that can cause bodily harm. In this case, investigators believe the cup of hot coffee thrown by Brown qualifies under that definition, given that the heat from the beverage caused injury to the victim's skin.

McDonald’s has not commented publicly on the incident or the video, which remains widely viewed on social media platforms. The major fast-food chain has faced previous incidents involving employee assaults, prompting discussions about workplace safety and customer behavior.

Meanwhile, police continue to ask for assistance from the public in locating Brown. Officers believe she may be actively avoiding authorities and urge anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts to contact law enforcement directly.

Community Rallies to Identify Attacker

The speed with which the community responded to the police’s social media plea underscores both the power of digital engagement and community involvement in solving crimes. Police praised residents for their rapid assistance, which helped build the case against Brown and strengthen their understanding of what transpired.

Though there were no other injuries reported, the event raised concerns about the risks fast-food workers face on the job, particularly when dealing with frustrated or aggressive customers. Experts underscore that such behavior not only endangers employees but also undermines the expectation of respectful public conduct.

Brown, who has not made any public comment, remains wanted by the Buena Vista Police Department. Charges will proceed once she is located, according to officials intimately familiar with the ongoing investigation.

Lessons to Learn

1. Stay calm in public disputes. No matter how frustrating a customer service experience may be, responding with violence or aggression can lead to criminal charges and serious consequences. Resolving conflict through dialogue or proper complaint channels is always the better path forward.

2. Video surveillance is a powerful tool. Whether by security camera or bystander footage, many public incidents are now being captured on video. Individuals should be aware that behavior in public spaces is easily recorded and can be used as evidence in both civil and criminal proceedings.

3. Workplace safety must be prioritized. Employers and frontline workers must work together to de-escalate heated situations. Training employees to handle difficult interactions and reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy for violence can help foster a safer environment. Regardless of precautions, it’s important to remember that crime can happen to anyone, and victims should never be blamed.

Why This Story Matters

This story highlights growing concerns over violence against service workers, a troubling trend that puts employees at risk while simply doing their jobs. It also shows the critical role that community members play in helping law enforcement swiftly identify suspects. Public safety depends not only on police work but also on individuals who choose to step up and report wrongdoings.

Further discussion is needed on how best to protect workers at fast-food establishments and other customer-facing roles. Situations like this bring attention to the fine line between a service complaint and a criminal act.

The viral nature of the video has also reignited conversations surrounding respect, patience, and digital accountability in today’s society.
