Manhunt underway for suspect accused of starting deadly fire

Mexican authorities are in pursuit of a suspect believed to have ignited a catastrophic fire in a local bar, leading to the unfortunate demise of 11 individuals near the Arizona border.

The chilling incident unfolded in the wee hours of a Saturday morning at a popular watering hole in San Luis Rio Colorado, a city nestled close to the United States border city of San Luis, Arizona. The suspect, who was reportedly heavily under the influence of alcohol, was shown the door by the bar staff for his disrespectful behavior towards women.

In a fit of uncontrolled anger, he retaliated by launching a flaming object at the entrance of the bar, triggering a deadly inferno, as reported by Yahoo News.

The victims of this horrifying incident included a 17-year-old and a female American citizen. The Mexican authorities are currently in the process of confirming whether the deceased woman also held Mexican citizenship. The US Department of State has been approached for a comment on the matter.

Witness Testimonies and official communications

As per the information released by the Sonora Attorney General's Office, the fire erupted at precisely 1:33 a.m. The suspect, described as a young male, was reportedly causing a disturbance and behaving inappropriately towards women in the bar. After being escorted out by the security staff, he retaliated by hurling a flaming object at the bar's doors.

The Sonora Attorney General, Gustavo Rómulo Salas Chávez, shared in a news conference:

"According to versions (from) several witnesses, the person with a young, male appearance was disrespecting women in that bar and was expelled."

The object thrown at the bar was identified as a type of 'Molotov' cocktail, which instigated the devastating fire. The primary suspect is currently under intense interrogation.

Victims and casualties

The fire claimed the lives of 11 innocent people. Among the victims were a 17-year-old and a female American citizen. The authorities are still in the process of confirming whether the deceased woman also held Mexican citizenship.

A total of six people were injured in the incident. One of the injured individuals remains hospitalized, two have been discharged, and the remaining three have been transferred to US hospitals for further treatment.

The Sonora Attorney General, Gustavo Rómulo Salas Chávez, provided the following details:

"At least six people were also injured, according to Chávez. One person remains hospitalized, two were discharged and the other three were transferred to US hospitals for treatment."

The Mexican authorities have initiated a manhunt for the suspect. The primary suspect is currently being interrogated. The investigation is in full swing, and the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to bring the perpetrator to justice.
