Florida man arrested after scaling Mar-a-Lago wall to find Kai Trump

Just after midnight Tuesday, a strange encounter unfolded at the gates of Mar-a-Lago, drawing concern from both law enforcement and the Trump family.

As reported by the Western Journal, a Texas man was taken into custody early Tuesday after allegedly attempting to trespass onto former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate while fixated on marrying his 18-year-old granddaughter, Kai Trump.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, June 3, Palm Beach police arrested Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, of Texas, after he allegedly tried to scale a wall at the Palm Beach, Florida, resort property owned by the former president. Officers responded quickly and intercepted the suspect before he could enter the estate grounds.

According to authorities, Reyes stated during his arrest that he intended to "marry" Kai Trump, a granddaughter of Donald Trump, and bizarrely claimed his purpose also included "spreading the gospel." Neither Kai Trump nor Donald Trump was present at the Mar-a-Lago property at the time of the incident.

Suspect May Have History of Obsession

This was reportedly not the first time Reyes targeted the Florida residence. British outlet Daily Mail revealed that Reyes previously tried to breach the property on New Year’s Eve 2024, an incident that occurred while Trump, then president-elect, was on-site. Law enforcement declined to comment on any specific motive in that earlier case but confirmed there was a security response.

As with Tuesday’s event, no member of the Trump family was harmed during the attempted intrusion. On the night of the latest arrest, the president was in Washington, D.C., while Kai was vacationing abroad in the Bahamas, according to sources familiar with the family’s schedule.

Kai Trump is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump. She gained national attention during the 2024 presidential election cycle through various public appearances aligned with her grandfather’s campaign.

Kai’s Role in 2024 Brought Her Into the Spotlight

In July 2024, Kai stood before millions at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where she delivered a heartfelt speech introducing her grandfather. Media observers noted her poise and dry wit, suggesting she provided voters a unique glimpse into Trump’s private side.

Later that summer, Kai announced her commitment to play golf at the University of Miami, a detail that brought her additional public visibility. In December, she shared a behind-the-scenes moment with her grandfather on YouTube in a lighthearted family video that quickly went viral online.

That growing public profile may have drawn the wrong kind of attention. While there has been no indication that Reyes ever contacted Kai directly, his apparent fixation raises questions about the safety of public figures and their families.

Trump Remains Resilient Amid Ongoing Pressures

The former president’s connection with his granddaughter is said to be especially strong, with many describing her as one of his favorite family members. In recent years, Donald Trump has faced an array of personal and political challenges, including four indictments and two reported near-assassination attempts.

Despite those threats, those close to the president insist he remains optimistic and grounded. “He cares nothing for his safety and has placed his faith in God,” one confidant has reportedly said regarding his continuing presence on the national stage.

After witnessing another breach attempt so close to home, observers say increased security may be warranted—not just for the political leader—but also for his extended family, including young adults like Kai Trump who now inhabit a more visible role.

Why This Story Matters

This case strikes a nerve at the intersection of celebrity, politics, and personal safety. As the lines between public and private life blur, especially for high-profile families, attention to personal security is becoming an ever more pressing societal concern. Moreover, the story raises awareness about mental health and criminal behavior, showing how individual delusions can potentially escalate to dangerous situations. Finally, it reminds us that threats to national figures don’t end with their term in office—they can linger for years and affect those around them in unexpected ways.

Conclusion

Authorities in Palm Beach arrested Anthony Thomas Reyes, a 23-year-old from Texas after he allegedly attempted to scale the security wall of Mar-a-Lago seeking to marry 18-year-old Kai Trump. Neither Kai nor her grandfather, Donald Trump, was present at the estate during the event. This incident echoes concerns from a similar attempted breach on New Year’s Eve 2024, when Trump was in residence. Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., has risen into the public eye during the 2024 campaign, contributing to her visibility. The Secret Service and local police have not disclosed further plans for security but are continuing to assess the situation. The attempt underscores the vulnerability experienced by even the youngest members of political families and the need for continued vigilance.
