Elderly Woman Found Alive at Funeral Home After Being Declared Dead

In a startling incident in Lincoln, Nebraska, a woman presumed dead was found breathing at a funeral home.

According to Daily Mail, a 74-year-old woman, previously declared deceased at a hospice, astounded staff at a funeral home by showing signs of life.

Early on Monday morning, Constance Glantz was erroneously declared dead at a local hospice facility. The doctor had signed her death certificate, confirming the end of her life. Shortly after this declaration, the preparations for her final rites began.

Alert Funeral Home Employee Saves Life of "Deceased" Woman

Glantz was then transferred to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln. Scheduled to arrive at 9:44 am, her body was taken there for the customary preparations.

The surreal turn of events unfolded just moments after she arrived at the funeral home, marking the beginning of a baffling sequence of actions.

An observant employee at the funeral home, while handling Glantz's supposed remains, noticed she was still breathing.

This alert led to immediate lifesaving efforts. The funeral home staff acted in a rush of urgency, administering CPR and calling 911 immediately.

Lasting Impressions From An Unforeseen Discovery

Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin verified the bewildering incident.

He expressed his shock, noting that nothing comparable had occurred during his lengthy service spanning three decades. "It's a very unusual case," Houchin remarked, capturing the sheer oddity of the situation.

Rescue efforts continued as emergency responders arrived at the scene. Glantz was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The occurrence not only shook the community but also prompted a detailed investigation by local authorities.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office investigated without delay. Despite thorough examinations, Deputy Houchin confirmed, "We have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home but the investigation is ongoing." This statement aimed to clarify the position of law enforcement towards the hospice’s actions.

The Cascade of Errors Explained

The Sheriff's officials spent hours piecing together the events leading to such a distressing oversight.

The question at the heart of the matter was how a living individual could be declared dead and the protocols that failed in this process.

As the community grapples with these daunting questions, the investigation seeks to unearth whether this was an isolated incident of negligence or a symptom of larger systemic issues within the hospice care system.

Why This Story Matters

This report serves as a critical examination of our healthcare and mortuary handling systems.

It underscores the importance of diligence and care in treating all individuals, especially the elderly. Moreover, it reminds us of our collective responsibility towards the vulnerable members of our community.

To conclude, the tale of Constance Glantz is a wake-up call. It challenges healthcare professionals to reassess their protocols and stresses the necessity for vigilance at every step of medical and funeral services.

As the investigation continues, one hopes for changes that will prevent such occurrences in the future and ensure the dignity of every individual in their final moments.
