Fiancé Speaks on Teacher’s Controversial 2011 That was Ruled a Suicide

Thirteen years after the mysterious death of 27-year-old teacher Ellen Greenberg, her fiancé breaks his silence amidst ongoing legal battles and accusations.

Greenberg was found in her Philadelphia apartment with 20 stab wounds in a case that was controversially ruled as a suicide, as the Daily Mail reports.

The young woman's body was discovered on Jan. 26, 2011, featuring severe wounds, which included ten stabs to her neck and head and ten more across her stomach, abdomen, and chest. Among these was a fatal wound with a 10-inch knife lodged in her heart.

Initially, Assistant Philadelphia Medical Examiner Marlon Osbourne labeled the death a homicide. However, this assessment was later changed to suicide after Osbourne met with police and prosecutors, triggering controversy and skepticism among forensic experts and the community.

Her fiancé, Samuel Goldberg, found Ellen and reported to the police that he had broken into the apartment as it was bolted from the inside. He called 911 and performed CPR during the call, according to his statements.

Mystery Surrounds Change in Ruling

Ellen's parents, Joshua and Sandee Greenberg refused to accept the suicide ruling, dedicating years and considerable financial resources to challenge and overturn the decision. They employed private detectives and consulted several pathologists who supported their belief that Ellen was murdered.

In response to their persistent efforts, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal in July, acknowledging the case as a matter of statewide importance. This legal development opened new avenues for examining the intricacies and possible mishandling of the case by authorities.

Samuel Goldberg, now living in New York with his new wife Caroline Fay Shnay, and their two children, has remained firm on his claims of Ellen’s suicide. "When Ellen took her own life, it left me bewildered," Goldberg expressed during a CNN investigation.

Goldberg Faces Scrutiny And Defends His Reputation

Recent lawsuits have brought further attention to the case, suggesting a potential cover-up involving police and the Medical Examiner’s Office and alleging emotional distress and conspiracy. These proceedings underscore the contentious nature of the investigation and the multiple theories surrounding Ellen’s tragic death.

Forensic experts, such as Dr. Wayne Ross, have publicly disputed the suicide ruling, pointing out inconsistencies such as the lack of blood on Ellen's left hand, which they argue could not have inflicted the wounds on her own body.

Joshua and Sandee Greenberg have been vocal in the media, stating their conviction that their daughter did not commit suicide. The couple has grappled with both the profound loss of their daughter and their struggle for truth against formidable odds.

"I don't think it's any of our business, I don't know what he does. There's no interest on my part about what his life is like," said Joshua Greenberg about Samuel Goldberg, highlighting the strained relations and continued pain that permeates this case.

Lessons to Learn from This Tragedy

1. Always question sudden changes in investigative conclusions: The initial ruling of homicide that was later switched to suicide raises valid concerns about transparency and procedure in crime investigations.

2. The importance of independent investigations: Hiring private experts can be crucial in challenging official narratives and bringing new evidence to light.

3. Mental health awareness: This case underscores the tragic impact of mental health and reminds us that support and understanding are essential. However, it is important to remember that victim-blaming is unacceptable, and crime can strike indiscriminately.

Why This Story Matters

This ongoing story is significant because it not only challenges the boundaries between suicide and foul play but also casts a spotlight on the processes that govern criminal investigations. It compels the community to scrutinize the integrity of those designated to protect and serve, ensuring justice is served in all aspects.

In conclusion, the mysterious death of Ellen Greenberg continues to unravel, highlighting issues of legal integrity, the pain of loss, and the quest for truth.

Thirteen years later, the battle waged by her family against the tides of a contentious legal system and conflicting narratives provides a poignant reminder of the pursuit of justice in the face of overwhelming odds.
